A Land So Wide Read-Along Week 4: The Finale, The Bright-Eyed, and That Ending!

A Land So Wide Read-Along: Week Four Finale

Welcome to our final week of the A Land So Wide read-along by Erin A. Craig—and what a wild, emotional ride it’s been! This finale gave us heartbreak, redemption, and a hard-won happily ever after that feels earned.

Before we dive in, don’t miss our current box — the November Bite Me Box featuring A Curse of Shadows and Ice by Catharina Maura, a spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling! Order your box here.

Greer’s Father and the Truth About the Benevolence

Let’s start with Greer’s father. He followed her, wanted to drag her home, lied about Lachlan to save face—and most shockingly, he was the one who killed her mother. (I totally called it).

Sure, he kept the cloak and ultimately saved Greer’s life at the cost of his own, but it doesn’t redeem him in my eyes. His death felt more like poetic justice than tragedy.

And can we talk about the Benevolence? Finding out it was never real was such a gut punch. Everything the Benevolence stood for—their supposed divinity, their superiority, their protection—all of it was a manipulation. Seeing that illusion crumble gave the story a powerful, freeing sense of closure.

Team Ellis vs. Team Finn

Now let’s talk about the emotional roller coaster that was Ellis and Finn. I felt for Finn when Greer rejected him, and when I thought he died in the mine collapse? Gutted.

But then Ellis—that “I love you” moment? Done. Team Ellis forever.
I’m thrilled both men survived, and that Greer finally got the freedom and love she deserved.

Breaking the Stones and the End of the Bright-Eyed

The return to Mistaken and destruction of the warding stones felt so symbolic—breaking free from generations of fear and isolation. The fact that the Bright-Eyed are gone (except Finn and Greer, of course) made this ending deeply satisfying.

Lingering Questions

Like any good book, a few questions remain:

  • What was up with Resolution, his greed, and his witchcraft?

  • Why was Elowen’s court so strange—and what’s with her eye?

  • And that final image—total Grishaverse vibes, right?

Final Thoughts

As endings go, this one was beautifully bittersweet—full of hope, loss, and possibility. Erin A. Craig delivered a haunting, magical finale that left me thinking long after I closed the book.
