Welcome back to Week Two of our A Land So Wide Read Along by Erin A. Craig!
Let me just say—I’m both happy and angry that so many of my predictions from last week came true.
This section had my heart racing, my leg bouncing furiously, and yes… I may have snapped at my husband for interrupting me in the middle of that fight between Lachlan, Hessel, and Greer. My bad.
But wow, this part of the book? Absolutely intense.
Greer’s Power, Lachlan’s Fall, and the Fight for Freedom
I’m so damn happy that when Lachlan tried to force Greer home—to force her into marriage—her scream turned the tables. Whether he’s maimed or dead, I don’t care. He deserved it.
And honestly? So did Greer’s father. As a strong woman, I react violently and poorly to men telling women what to do, especially when they’re already fighting to be heard. Craig nails that frustration perfectly, and it’s so satisfying to see Greer push back.
Ellis’s Siblings and Small Acts of Defiance
Shout out to Ellis’s siblings—especially Louise and her younger sister. That moment when the little one created a distraction to give Greer a chance to run? Brilliant. Brave. Beautifully written.
It’s these moments that give this dark, eerie story a flicker of hope—and remind us what’s at stake.
Who (or What) Are the Benevolence?
Now let’s talk about the creature.
The one that calls Greer “Starling.” The one that touches her in her dreams, holds her hand when she reaches for Ellis, and seems both protective and terrifying.
I need to know more about the Benevolence. What’s their connection to Greer?
And her scream—her power—it’s growing stronger. The way her fear destroyed the moths and brought down Lachlan? That was no accident.
What Comes Next for Greer and Ellis?
I’m clinging to the hope that Ellis isn’t truly gone. Maybe he’ll become one of the Benevolence—or maybe there’s a way for them to still be together.
Greer deserves love, freedom, and adventure. Whether she ends up outside Mistaken, on her own path, or among the creatures who seem to call to her, I’m rooting for her every step of the way.
And yes, a tiny part of me wants her to return home—preferably with Ellis—and tell both her father and Lachlan to rot.
Final Thoughts and Predictions
Not a ton of plot in this section, but wow—so many revelations and even more questions for the second half of A Land So Wide.
What do you think?
Did the Hunt unfold the way you expected?
Did you feel Ellis’s sacrifice as deeply as I did?
Drop your predictions and theories in the comments below, and I’ll see you next week as we read up to Chapter 34.
Until then, happy reading! 🖤
