Arcana Academy Read Along Week Four: Explosive Ending, Secrets, and a Cliffhanger That Changes Everything
Welcome back to the final week of our Arcana Academy Read Along by Elise Kova—and y’all, things went absolutely off the rails in the best way.
If you’re new here, this read along is part of our monthly fantasy romance subscription box—check out our current box On the Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn.
Okay, where to start? Naturally, with Kaelis and Clara.
They finally give in to their tension, and yes, we get not one but two spicy moments. While the first encounter lacked some depth and emotional weight, the second round gave us everything: character growth, connection, and the bittersweet promise of what’s to come. Their goodbye was equal parts tense, tender, and heartbreaking, and I can’t wait to see how Elise Kova tears us apart in book two.
Even more intriguing? The hints that Kaelis and Clara may have shared something before the world was remade. The way he speaks to her has me convinced we’re only scratching the surface of their history. I am foaming for answers in book two.
But romance isn’t the only thing blowing up.
-
The Worldkeepers. Bristara’s secrets. Clara’s mother. Clara’s sister—she’s alive!
-
Silas. Dead.
-
Ravin. Death himself.
-
Alor’s mother. Ordering Clara’s mother’s execution.
-
Eza’s death. Brutal, satisfying, and the perfect setup for his father to come for Clara.
And then there’s the king, warning Clara about Kaelis’s intentions. He clearly knows more than he lets on about remaking the world. The sheer number of threads being set up is dizzying—and delicious.
By the time we leave Clara captured and headed back to prison with her sister, it feels like a hundred doors have slammed shut while a hundred more have cracked open. It’s a cliffhanger, yes, but one that ties up enough loose ends to give us satisfaction before the plunge.
(Also: the Hating Game nods? I see you, Elise Kova. And I loved every second.)
So, what part of this whirlwind finale hit you the hardest? What theories are you carrying into book two? Drop your thoughts in the comments—I’d love to chat about it with you!
And we will see each other next time as we start A Land So Wide by Erin A Craig, reading up to Chapter Nine.
And speaking of what’s next…
