Arcana Academy Read Along Week Two: Romance & Betrayal

Arcana Academy Read Along: Week Two Reactions & Theories

Welcome back to our Arcana Academy read along! This week’s chapters gave us even more secrets, betrayals, and sizzling romance. Elise Kova knows how to keep the tension high, and honestly—I could have read this whole book in one sitting if I didn’t have responsibilities pulling me away.

👉 Before we dive in: our October Bite Me Box featuring On Wings of Blood by Briar Boleyn just launched today! This is your first chance to grab a deluxe copy and exclusive bookish goodies. Order your box here.

Sparks of Romance

The romance is finally blossoming, and I’m living for it. Kaelis shows Clara a side of himself he doesn’t offer to many people—protective, gentle, quietly vulnerable. Those moments where he pushes just enough and she bolts? They make the tension all the more delicious.

That party scene and the kiss afterward? Exquisite. Clara running away from him the next morning because she doesn’t know what to do with her feelings felt so on-brand for her character. She thrives on the fight, even when it’s with herself.

Liam’s Complexity

Bringing Liam back into the fold was genius. Clara telling him her last name and admitting she still has feelings adds so much complexity to her story. It keeps the romance tangled and layered, giving her an emotional weight beyond Kaelis.

Suspicion Everywhere

I’m side-eyeing almost everyone except Kaelis at this point.

  • Silas feels too easy of an ally. Spy vibes.

  • Luren is still sweet, but survival instincts could push her into bad choices.

  • Professor V. is fascinating. Protective in secret, scornful in public—classic camouflage. Is he working with Kaelis to find the World Card?

Meanwhile, the king is predictably awful, and the heir is dripping entitlement. Their roles contrast Kaelis perfectly, solidifying him as the unlikely hero.

Standout Moments

  • Clara beating down Eza with her fists (yes, girl 👊).

  • The growing mystery of Clara’s sister and why everyone else seems to have given up.

  • The way Kaelis’s role as “the spare” prince gives him both freedom and motive to change things.

Every scene layers in more character development and foreshadowing, and I’m loving the momentum.

Predictions for Next Week

  • Betrayal within Clara’s friend group feels inevitable.

  • Professor V. will either prove himself or double-cross.

  • Kaelis’s and Clara’s chemistry is about to burn hotter than ever.

We’ll be reading up to Chapter 45 for Week Three—see you there!
