Welcome back to our Blood Beneath the Snow week three discussion! This week’s chapters brought romance, revelations, and a little bit of whiplash.
🔥 Romantic Tension at Last (But Was It Enough?)
Let’s talk about that moment we’ve all been waiting for—the slow build finally paid off with a kiss! I liked the way Revna struggled internally before finally giving in to her feelings. The dream. The moment she had to share warmth or freeze to death. (Anyone else remember that quote from the exclusive bookmark in our box? 👀)
But what got me in this week three read along update was how fast things suddenly tumbled to a head. Volkan’s presence during the confession? It didn’t feel natural, especially after all the simmering tension we’ve been reading. I would’ve preferred a more private confrontation—something where she forced him to admit how he felt instead of a kind of “I know you were listening” shrug.
Pacing & Repetition: Debut Novel Vibes
The kiss was sweet, but it left me wanting more. After all that build-up, I expected more heat, more internal conflict, more longing. It’s the pacing again—something I’ve mentioned in every Blood Beneath the Snow read along post so far. It feels like this story is stretching to fill two books when it could’ve been a knockout standalone with some cuts to repetition.
Still, I loved the fight scene before she got hurt. And when he instinctively protected her and killed the archer? That aftermath hit me right in the feels. Those small emotional payoffs are what keep me going, even if I wish we’d trimmed the journey just a bit.
One Missed Opportunity?
One thing I keep wondering about: Revna’s family dynamic. As the only daughter among brothers, her treatment seems harsh—but I think adding a magical sister would’ve deepened the theme of inequality. Right now, it’s gendered but without a true counterpoint. Was this a missed opportunity or a conscious choice?
Anyway, that’s where I’m at with our Blood Beneath the Snow week three discussion. I still don’t think we’re getting deep into the trials by the end of book one unless the pacing does a 180 in the final chapters. But I’m in for the ride, and I’d love to know what you think.
What are your predictions for the ending of Book One?
