Blood Bound by Ellis Hunter Read Along | Week 4 Ending Discussion

Blood Bound Read Along | Week Four

Welcome back to our fourth and final Blood Bound Read Along for Blood Bound by Ellis Hunter.

Fair warning: this post contains major spoilers for the ending of the book.

I love it when I can say I was right…

But I equally love it when I can say I did NOT see that coming.

Holy cow.

The betrayals, the red herrings, and the sneaky side character swooping in at the end—we have a lot to unpack.

The Theories I Got Right

Let’s start with the easiest one.

The queen was behind the assassination attempts.

I knew it.

It felt so satisfying to have one theory confirmed before the story immediately pulled the rug out from under me with a whole new layer of deception.

I was also right about “Two become one.”

What I didn’t expect was the reveal that Astrid and Skylar would become mates.

Not romantic mates.

Soul-bound.

Best friends.

Sisters by fate.

That was such a refreshing twist because we rarely see that kind of bond in romantasy, and I absolutely loved it.

The Twists I Never Saw Coming

I assumed the attacks were ultimately about eliminating both heroines so Zryan could reclaim the throne.

I also expected the king to play a much larger role in the finale.

Instead…

Axel completely blindsided me.

Seriously.

What happened?

I kept waiting for him to choose his brother.

To choose Skylar.

To choose redemption.

Instead, he doubled down.

Whether you call him a zealot, a fanatic, or simply broken by his mother, he became every bit as dangerous as the queen herself.

That was one twist I genuinely never expected.

The Heart and the Ending

I was also only half right about what was happening with the conscripted Blooded.

Yes, people were being sacrificed for magic.

But they weren’t restoring the Heart.

They were powering the wealthy.

That reveal completely changed how I viewed everything the kingdom had been doing.

The explanation behind the blight—and the world the Heart came from—was another surprise I never would have predicted.

And then…

Everyone disappears into that new world.

Needless to say, I’m officially excited for the sequel.

Let’s Talk Romance

The romance continued to be one of my favorite parts of Blood Bound by Ellis Hunter.

Zryan is exactly the kind of love interest I enjoy.

He’s compassionate.

He genuinely wants what’s best for everyone.

And his reaction to Astrid becoming mated with Skylar couldn’t have been more perfect.

The moment he realizes he still gets to love her anyway…

I loved it.

And the way he tried to protect her?

Absolutely one of my favorite scenes.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I had so much fun reading Blood Bound by Ellis Hunter.

There were plenty of theories I managed to guess…

And just as many twists that completely caught me off guard.

That’s exactly the kind of fantasy romance I enjoy reading.

What was your favorite reveal?

Which twist surprised you the most?

Drop your thoughts in the comments—I would love to hear them.
