Caroline Asher Author Interview

Introduce yourself.

Hi, I’m Caroline Asher. I write sizzling paranormal romance with action, adventure, and strong heroines.

How long have you been writing or when did you start?

I started writing young and have loads of journals. But I finished writing my first book 2003 and have written 50+ books under various genres and pen names. Many of them are best-selling and award-winning novels.

Why paranormal/urban fantasy? What drew you to the genre?

It’s my favorite genre to read so I had to write stories in it.

What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

It depends. Most often it’s the character and a scene. Then I build the world and story around that.

What’s your favorite type of paranormal creature and why?

Ooooh, that’s tough. Depends on my mood. Right now, I’m focused on writing about angels and vampires so I’ll choose them. It’s exciting to think about what the creature would do in any given situation and especially when it comes to romance. Wink wink.

Tell us about your heroine/hero. What inspired her/his quirks and struggles?

Mira lives in the Halo on the outskirts of Fallen City. It used to be California until the angels fell. Now it’s run by them. Her whole life they’ve proved over and over how horrible they are. She’s fought for everything she has, including her best friend. As a human and thief, she works for a werewolf and hopes to one day run her own street, which is unheard of for a human. She believes in herself as a human and is a hard worker determined to carve her own path. She cares about others, especially her best friend and her crew. I chose her quirks and struggles because I love the idea of something rising above their given situation and fighting for what they want in life.

Would you and your main character get along?

I think so, though she might not have time for me. She’s always busy.

Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?

Probably her best friend, Ellie.

What is a significant way your book has changed since the first draft?

Originally Mira and Ellie were one person. After writing the first draft I realized they were two.
