Dark Hope Read-Along | Week 4 – It’s Finally Over
By God. It’s over. It’s finally over.
I struggled so hard through the last quarter of Dark Hope by Christine Feehan. And if you’ve been following along, you know I haven’t been quiet about my complaints—if you want the full breakdown, check out Week Three’s post. Even with read-skimming, I just couldn’t stay interested. Normally, dialogue will slow me down and pull me back into the action, but even that wasn’t enough to keep me engaged this time.
One part that did manage to grab my attention? The tarot card reading scene. I totally get the appeal—I’ve even written similar moments in my own books—but again, it was a lot of repetition. The only standout was Nicu’s reading, which felt different from the rest. But overall, the last chapter didn’t feel like a satisfying conclusion to Silke and Benedek’s story. Instead, it felt like a promo for the next book.
And speaking of unsatisfying—what happened to Fenja?! All that setup, all that tension…and then nothing? Why did we spend so much time hinting at something major if it wasn’t going to pay off?
I don’t know, y’all. I’m just done. I don’t think I’ve ever been this relieved to finish a book.
