Heavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu Review | Read Along Week Four
Welcome back to week four of our read along for Heavenly Bodies by Imani Erriu. We’ve officially finished book one, and y’all…that was something.
If you’re new here, this is part of our ongoing fantasy romance read along series, where we break down each section of the book and discuss plot twists, character development, romance progression, and predictions for what’s next.
Final Quarter Thoughts: Twists, Reveals & Chaos
I will admit, the last quarter of Heavenly Bodies felt a bit all over the place for me. There was a lot of trickery and reveals—so many shifting predictions that we as readers got twisted around.
It’s a strong way to end book one in a fantasy series, but I still feel like I’m missing something. I can’t quite put my finger on it.
Merissa’s Reveal & Elara’s Forgiveness
Merissa being the daughter of a Star initially feels like it doesn’t fully land. There’s tension, but Elara forgives her quickly—which fits Elara’s personality—but I wanted more bite.
That changes when Merissa stabs Elara in the back—literally—even if it ultimately works in Elara’s favor as she becomes the god she was always meant to be.
The Sun and the Moon reveal? Incredible. Especially knowing that’s exactly how they’re depicted in the end papers of the book.
Elara’s Transformation & Power Shift
Now let’s talk about Elara stabbing Gem. Then stabbing her again in the heart.
One of my favorite scenes.
Her impersonating Enzo to retrieve the dagger—the growth required for that choice—and how it sharpened her into something more dangerous? Yes. It made me furious in the moment, but narratively, it worked.
This is where Imani Erriu really delivered emotionally.
Romance, Angst & Enzo
Elara pushing Enzo away.
The melancholy.
Him kneeling before her and offering his crown.
All longing. All angst. All delicious emotional payoff.
The slow burn romance continues to build, and I’m fully invested heading into book two.
The Stone Gods & Lingering Questions
The meeting with the stone gods was interesting—something I haven’t seen before in a fantasy romance. That said, I was reaching a point where I wanted answers rather than additional mystery.
It’s not a deal breaker. Just something I noticed in this final section.
What This Means for Book Two
Enzo is still asleep—not dead—so we clearly have unfinished business. And I think I know where this series is headed next.
I’m excited to see how Heavenly Bodies continues in book two.
