I Love Vampire Novels is excited to bring you this 1:1 interview with author Jade Christy
The Blood Collector – On Sale Now!
ILVN: Introduce yourself. (Who are you, where are you from, what genre do you write, etc.)
Jade: Jade Christy is my pen name and I love vampires! I grew up near St. Louis but lived in Paris, France for 16 years.
ILVN: How long have you been writing or when did you start?
Jade: I started writing 15 years ago but was writing non-fiction… health and wellness subjects with a best-seller on Essential Oils as well as some books on investments that were featured in the NY times, Wall Street Journal and elsewhere. I decided several years ago to start writing fiction, because why not! I absolutely love the intrigue, danger and romance with the world of vampires.
ILVN: Why paranormal/urban fantasy? What drew you to the genre?
Jade: I remember so well! When I was 12, my parents took me to the Fox Theatre in St. Louis to see Dracula, a live theatre production. I was absolutely entranced, and while I’m sure I was interested in vampires before that, it sealed the deal. I read every vampire book (I re-read Interview with a Vampire so many times and fell in love with Twilight when it came out), then watched every vampire series and movie I could. To this day, my favorite series are The Vampire Diaries and True Blood and I rewatch them.
ILVN: What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?
Jade: Plot comes first. I want to have the idea of something interesting that can happen and then build the characters inside of the idea. For instance, for “The Vampire’s Curse at Blackthorn Manor”, I already knew I wanted an old, sexy, French vampire to be bound to a manor – and a smart, spicy, “bad ass” woman to inherit that manor. In “The Immortal’s Lie”, I wanted to start with the problems of dating and finding a boyfriend in humorous, sarcastic way, and then put together the characters that are dating, one of which is a vampire who doesn’t tell her what he is right away. In “Bloodlust for Apartment 7A”, I knew I wanted to tell a darker story of obsession (I queried my followers as I often do)…
ILVN: What’s your favorite type of paranormal creature and why?
Jade: I love vampires of course. But I have fun with shifters in many of my books, and there are usually witches as well. I’ve included ghosts in several stories, and a demon in two.
ILVN: Tell us about your heroine/hero. What inspired her/his quirks and struggles?
Jade: In my current series, “The Blood Collector”, I wanted to highlight a young professional, Aria Holt. She’s launching her first company, an indie perfume business, and has a stack of bills to pay and doubters in her past. She desperately wants to succeed. Aria scores a crate of antique bottles, thanks to her favorite perfume teacher in France, but…it turns out they are cursed with vampire blood and create bloodlust & addiction. Aria herself is flawed and interesting, and has a weakness for ‘bad boys’.
ILVN: Would you and your main character get along?
Jade: Absolutely!
ILVN: Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?
Jade: I always fall in love with the gorgeous vampire in each story I write (my weakness), whether he’s tortured or not. I almost always relate to the heroine, and like to write strong, fearless women, hoping I might be as fearless myself.
ILVN: Where can our readers find you? (Social media, website, etc.)
