Gena spent a few minutes telling us a little bit about her writing style and inspiration. We hope you find inspiration in her words.
ILVN: Tell us about your heroine/hero. What inspired her/his quirks and struggles?
Fiona’s name popped into my head one day as I was driving to pick up groceries. I don’t know if
I had read her name, heard the name somewhere, or if she was living in my brain waiting to be
fleshed out. I’m pretty sure it was the latter considering how quickly her character developed in
my head. When I got home, I started jotting down what I imagined she looked like on paper.
Once I knew she had rose gold hair, her accent came flying through. I didn’t even know she was
a werewolf until her reactions to specific actions and dialogue I was writing about another
character made it instinctually apparent that that was precisely what she was.
ILVN: Would you and your main character get along?
Oh, yes! A lot of Fiona’s characteristics and tastes align with my own. Especially our shared love
for a particular agave plant.
ILVN: What are your favorite tropes?
I know that many readers/writers are, as some would put it, ‘over’ the “love at first sight” trope.
But in my writing and reading, I’m still a sucker for it.
ILVN: How long have you been writing, or when did you start?
I’ve been writing ever since I can remember. I wrote and published my first full-length novel in
2012, Ember’s Curse, another werewolf novel. That one is a fated mate trope with many
fighting scenes. It’s still, to this day, one of my favorite books I wrote.
ILVN: Your love of paranormal romance and urban fantasy is evident. What was the first sexy book you read?
The first sexy book I read is a historical romance about Joanna and her Blackfoot warrior,
Windhawk! The book is Savage Autumn, book 1 in the Savage Seasons series. I was only 8 or 9
when I snuck those books off my mother’s bookshelf, and I finished all 4 in less than a week!
