Nocticadia by Keri Lake Read Along: Week Three Breakdown & The Slow Burn Ignites

Nocticadia by Keri Lake | Read Along Week Three

Welcome back to week three of our Nocticadia by Keri Lake read along, and y’all…this week? THIS WEEK? The slow burn officially cranked itself way up. We are steaming over here. Someone get me a fan.

If you’re reading along with us this month, don’t forget our current February book box, Heir of Illusions by Madeline Taylor is live and accepting orders now—perfect if you love lush worlds, magic, and emotional tension.

The Slow Burn Takes Center Stage

The romance really takes over this third quarter of Nocticadia. The push and pull. His obsession with her, and hers with him. It’s intense, it’s unhinged, and honestly? Hot.

But let’s start at the beginning.

The gala. Devryck’s absolute inability to stay away from her. Him threatening the donor who groped her under the table. And then, of course, saving her again after she’s been drugged.

Spencer claims he beat the shit out of him, and while I don’t fully believe Spencer, I also wouldn’t put it past Bramwell. Especially after finding her like that and everything else that’s been happening.

That said, I don’t think Spencer is the one behind it.

My money is on his father (or not-father) and the professor who had a thing with Bramwell earlier in the book. She already hates Lilia, and the provost clearly sees her as a threat.

Lilia absolutely is a threat—and I love that for her. Gilchrist has officially become my number one suspect for some of the darker things happening around her.

Suspicions, Enemies, and Obsession

My other big suspicion? Spencer is connected to the disappearance of the other girl obsessed with Bramwell—his best friend’s girlfriend. The ease with which he becomes obsessed, the way he admits to thinking about Lilia constantly, kissing her in the hallway? It all reads danger.

Lilia has enemies everywhere, and Bramwell seems to be the only one who can truly protect her.

We’re also circling dangerously close to the reveal about Angelo—the creep who terrified her back home—and I am ready for that fallout.

Mel, though? Still unsure. I know she means well, but something about her attitude keeps rubbing me the wrong way. Jury’s out.

Meanwhile, the groundwork being laid about the island fracture, the mineral-rich rocks, and the plant with apparent cure-all properties feels important. With where we leave off this week, it’s hard not to suspect this is the final missing piece Bramwell needs to complete his inoculation.

And then that scene.

When he realizes he can feel again. The kiss. Fans self.

The banter. The restraint snapping. The way he clings to control by a thread. This is slow-burn dark academia romance done right.

I can’t wait for everything to explode in this final quarter. So many of you have said this book still lives rent-free in your head—and honestly? Those are my favorite stories. The ones that haunt you long after the last page.

Unsurprisingly, this section earned a few extra tabs.

If you’re collecting alongside us, we do still have a few Nocticadia read along boxes left, but once they’re gone, they’re gone for good.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Are you as obsessed as I am? Favorite scenes, moments, or lines? I’ll see you next week as we finish Nocticadia by Keri Lake.

Until then, happy reading.
