Osric in Limbo, Aurienne in His Heart
As predicted, Osric ends the book in limbo—his rot has stopped progressing, but it doesn’t stop him from nearly dying for Aurienne. His fear for her safety makes it clear: he doesn’t just need her healing magic. He needs her.
Aurienne, of course, is battling the same turmoil. He’s killed for her, saved her, nearly died for her—and she hates how much she loves it. It’s that delicious enemies-to-lovers slow burn we’ve been craving.
That Kiss (Finally!)
The tension absolutely peaked with their first kiss—and wow, what a moment. Was I thrilled it happened in public? Not exactly. But the way they both lost themselves in it, how Osric both reveled in and regretted tasting her—it was bittersweet perfection.
This kind of yearning tension is what makes slow burn fantasy romance unforgettable.
Villains, Conspiracies & What’s Next
The ending gave us the perfect cliffhanger setup for book two. Between the head of Osric’s order, the horrifying plot to kill children (and maybe create a zombie army?!), and the hint at traveling to the forbidden lands for his cure, Brigitte Knightley left me rubbing my hands together with glee.
I got exactly what I wanted—and in ways I didn’t expect, which makes me even happier. Bring on book two, please!
