The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy Read Along | Week Three: Trouble Never Looked So Good

Welcome back to Week Three of our fantasy romance read along for The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley. And let me just say—the plot thickens!

✨ Catching up? This is Week Three of our The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy read along! If you’re just joining us, start from the beginning:

Last week, we left off with a blackout, ominous winds, and our enemies (yes, enemies!) holding hands. This week, we see the beginnings of something deeper—protectiveness turning into attraction, little moments of tenderness sneaking in. The kiss on Aurienne’s knuckles, her blushing thoughts afterward? That’s the kind of enemies-to-lovers slow burn tension we’ve all been craving.

Osric: Morally Gray, Violent, and Glorious

I have to say it—Osric is my favorite character. His shadow-walking abilities, his gleeful violence (bootlaces, forks, and a forty-man massacre—oh my!), and his utter disregard for anyone who gets in his way make him the perfect morally gray anti-hero.

Even in the bloodshed, his moments with Aurienne shine. That balance of brutality and intimacy is exactly what keeps me glued to the page.

Xanthe, Wellesley, and Twists in the Plot

Let’s not forget the side characters—Xanthe, Aurienne’s 200-year-old mentor, continues to be saucy, maniacal, and downright entertaining. I live for her schemes.

But we’ve also uncovered hints of something darker. Wellesley’s involvement in keeping viruses, his threats, and that anonymous donation all seem tied to the Pox devastating the children. The tension is mounting, and I can’t wait to see how this threads into the duology’s bigger arc.

Predictions Before the Finale

Here’s where I think this book is heading as we approach the end:

  • Osric won’t be fully healed, but he’ll reach a state of limbo—stable, but not cured.

  • The place required to heal him will either serve as this book’s climax or as the starting point for book two.

  • We will get the kiss (finally!), but I’m bracing for a cliffhanger that pulls them apart again.

  • War, betrayal, and treason will shake their world, leaving us answers for some mysteries and new threads to pull in book two.

What do you think? Am I on the right track? Drop your predictions in the comments below—I’d love to hear your theories.

What’s Next

Next week, we’ll finish The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy—and I can already feel the heartbreak and chaos coming.

Until then, happy reading, friends 🖤
