Read Along: The Never List by Jade Presley – Week Two Recap

Welcome back to Week Two of our fantasy romance read along for The Never List by Jade Presley—our April Bite Me Box pick. And oh wow… I’m absolutely wrapped up in this story. It’s fun, sexy, and deceptively easy to fall into, with tension building beneath the surface.

If you’re new to the read along, start here with Week One and catch up!

Chemistry, Secrets, and Brutal Kings

Rylee’s month with Kal? Whew. 🔥 The chemistry is on point, especially that washroom scene—a moment of heat and vulnerability that really worked. Their romance has been smooth sailing so far, almost too easy. I’m waiting for the fallout… because you know it’s coming.

Her tour of Kal’s city, though, dragged a little. It served up some world building and clarified the public’s perception of the Legends of Chaos—but I was craving more depth. Instead, we’re guided back to their developing bond, which, don’t get me wrong, I’m here for—but I wanted more substance behind the politics.

Clues About the Rebellion?

The threads about Rylee’s sister continue to tug at my curiosity. That art piece she created? Haunting. And the background check from Jax’s father (aka the asshole king) reveals she may have volunteered for a mission.

My theory? She’s part of the rebellion trying to take out the Legends.

If the rebellion is filled with demi-humans and citizens from the starving outer territories, I absolutely believe they’d rise up. The Legends, while powerful and noble in their own way, still carry biases. There’s tension bubbling under the kingdom’s surface.

Brutality & Foreshadowing

One of the most gut-punching moments? When the king makes Rylee choose a punishment—and a man dances to his death. It’s vicious. It’s a brutal reminder of how precarious her position is… and how cruel this world can be.

I need to see justice for that moment. It felt like a line was crossed, and I hope that tension gets revisited.

Tension with Jax, a Bet with Axl, and What’s Next?

Jax and Rylee still carry delicious tension, even with Kal in the picture. That brief moment of calm from Kal almost ruined the mood—I want the storm. I want the bite.

And then, there’s Axl. That naughty bet at the end of the section? I’m living for it. What will Rylee ask for now that she’s won? Something to do with finding her sister, I hope. And with her secrets hanging in the balance, the second half of this book is going to explode.

What’s Next?

Next week, we’ll be reading up to Chapter 35. What do you think is coming? Rebellion? Betrayal? Slow burn smolder that finally ignites? Let me know in the comments—I’m dying to hear your predictions!

📚 And don’t forget, while The Never List is from our April box, our June box features V.E. Schwab’s Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil—a dark, lyrical tale perfect for Pride Month. It comes with signed copies and exclusive gothic bookish items.
