Our interview with Laura Kaye:

Tell us about your book.  What makes it worth reading?

Forever Freed was my first novel. Fifteen books later, it’s still very special to my heart! This book is a story of second chances and unconditional acceptance for both the vampire hero and the mortal heroine and her younger daughter. Here’s the blurb:

A heart can break, even one that no longer beats.

I stalk my new neighbors, a single mother and her child, drawn by the irresistible scent of their joy and love. I crave their blood, starved for some healing respite from my ancient guilt and grief. Now to lure them into my grasp.

But they surprise me. Little Olivia accepts me without fear–talking, smiling, offering innocent affection that tugs at my long-lost humanity. Her mother, Samantha, seeks me out when she should stay away, offering sweet friendship, and tempting the forgotten man within me. They lure me instead.

Ah, Dio, Lucien, run and spare them while you can…

One of the things I think readers will especially enjoy is the unique first person point of view perspective of the male vampire hero. Man, that was fun to write!

How long have you been writing and what inspired you to do it?

I started writing almost exact five years ago. While I’d been a non-fiction writer (historian) my entire adult life, I became interested in fiction writing after I had a head injury during the summer of 2008 that left me with a mile-wide creative streak. Forever Freed was the first book that came out of that experience – 450 pages in just 11 weeks. The rest is history… *grins*

What do you think causes people’s enduring fascination with vampires?

I think it’s because vampires are the ultimate in the forbidden and the ultimate bad boy. Deadly, animalistic, powerful beyond our imagination, immortal, and tortured by their loneliness (at least in more modern depictions), they tug our heartstrings and stir the heat inside us. To think something that powerful would want us? Oh yeah…

What are you reading right now?  Would you recommend it?

I’ve just started reading Joey W. Hill’s Taken by the Vampire and so far it is uber hot!

The vampires are attacking!  Grab the first thing you see to your right and hit them with it!  What was it?  And how do you think you did in the ensuing fight?

It’s my iPhone! LOL And I think I’ve just been bitten. Though, I’m not sure I’m unhappy with that result…

The aforementioned vampire attack didn’t go so well and you were bitten by the vampire…now what?

Now, I really hope my sire is a crazy hot male with a lot of stamina… Jus’ sayin’

In the event of a zombie apocalypse what item would you make sure that you took with you to your underground safety bunker? (we will presume that your family are already safely in the bunker!)

For some reason, toilet paper came to mind. LOL But maybe I’ll say food and water instead!

You are planning an awesome dinner party. Which 3 celebrities/fictional characters/historical figures (past or present) would you add to your guest list?

OMG this is hard!!! It would be hard if it was just celebrities or just fictional characters or just historical figures LOL. Hmm… Zsadist from Lover Awakened (he would totally be okay eating the food I made him and, er, fed him from my hand…), Shakespeare, and Robert Pattinson just because that would be a frickin’ hilarious trio

Can you give us five random facts about yourself?

I’m trained as an archaeologist

I have two tattoos

I have a German Shepard-Collie dog named Jack

I studied Russian in college but don’t remember much of it

I have an irrational love for iced tea

Where can readers find your books?

My books are available on all the online retailers, and the Hearts of the Anemoi and Hard Ink series are and/or will be available in bookstores everywhere!

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?

Thank you so much for sharing in this amazing journey with me! It wouldn’t mean as much without you!!
