Interview with Alexandra Anthony, author of The Vampire Destiny Series
Firstly Alexandra, tell us about your book/series.
My current published series is The Vampire Destiny Series. There are currently three books: Fated, Illusion and Awakening. Ascend is due out for a Spring 2013 release.
The Vampire Destiny Series centers around Josephine Anderson, a 28 year old psychic empath. She’s resigned to being alone due to her abilities…but everything changes when she meets Stefan Lifsten. Tall, blond and gorgeous, he also has his own secrets. Also a powerful psychic, he’s a millennia old vampire that’s been on a mission to find her after a vision he had over 200 years ago. As the series unfolds, we discover that their love goes beyond fate and destiny…and Josephine is much more than just a simple human.
What are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on Ascend (The Vampire Series Book 4) AND my newest series, The Dark Hart Chronicles. Also a paranormal erotic romance, this features vampires and werewolves and has a Hollywood angle to it. Our couple in this book is Nick Hart and Savannah Wood. It’s a departure from The Vampire Destiny Series, but I’m having a blast!
What inspired you to become a writer?
I’ve always written…but in April of 2011 I was diagnosed with Stage 2A breast cancer. After six surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation, I decided I wasn’t going to put off what I truly wanted to do. Life is short and you should follow your dreams and not put things off for “tomorrow”.
How long have you been writing?
Professionally, one year. I’ve written on many blogs and written short stories off and on for 20 years.
What is your relationship with your characters? Do you have a favourite? Is there one that you find a bit more difficult?
In The Vampire Destiny Series, I would say Stefan and I have a strange relationship. He’s my muse and writing for his character is similar to actually consulting with a real person. He sort of leads me and directs the story even though it’s written from my heroines POV. And yes, he’s my favorite.
The bad guys are difficult for me to write. In Illusion (Book 2), I had to write a violent scene. It was difficult for me to write because of the emotion and passion involved.
Do you write freehand at all or straight onto your pc?
I may scribble down notes, but I use my iPhone/iPad and Mac to transfer my notes back and forth into Word. It’s probably an unorthodox method, but it works for me! You never know when inspiration will strike.
What do you think causes people’s enduring fascination with vampires?
I think people are fascinated with vampires because of the mystery that surrounds them. They are immortal, frozen in time. Most that we read about have lived centuries and are wise beyond the appearance they present to the world.
I find their struggles, passion and intensity fascinating.
You are planning an awesome dinner party. Which 3-celebrities/fictional characters/historical figures (past or present) would you add to your guest list?
That’s an interesting question. I’ve always been fascinated with Abraham Lincoln. He’d be on my list for sure. As a vampire lover, I’d have to invite Lestat de Lioncourt. Rounding out my list would be Alexander Skarsgard. I’m sure you can imagine why….
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Keep writing and never give up on your dream. The more you write, the better and easier it will get for you.
Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?
That I appreciate every single one of them…and without their support and enthusiasm Stefan and Josie would still just be an unwritten story.
