Interview – C. T. Nicholson, author of Aiden’s Betrayal
About Aiden's Betrayal
Elle's a simple human who runs a bed and breakfast and ends up being dragged to a club with her friend. When she meets Aiden, he draws her to him like no other man ever has, but everything changes when she realizes he's a vampire. Just like the one who killed her family and nearly killed her.
As fate intervenes, Aiden ends up bringing Elle into his world to protect her from a rogue who hunts them and both woman and vampire must adjust. Aiden has to get over his fear of losing another mate and Elle has to get over her fear of vampires.
Firstly, tell us about your book/series.
Aiden's Betrayal is the first in my vampire series and the first book that will be published of mine. You can see the first chapter on my facebook account.
What are you working on at the moment? I'm working on a few different stories, one being the second in my Guardians of the Society novels.
What inspired you to become a writer? I love to read and have always loved coming up with stories (not really on paper). Even when I was a child playing with my dolls or stuffed animals. I never once thought about becoming a writer until a little more than three years ago.
How long have you been writing?
About three years, a little on and off up until december of 2011 when I was asked by my publisher to read the rest of my manuscript and then I've pretty much been writing constantly since then.
What is your relationship with your characters?
I love them all or hate them, depending on which character we're talking about.
Do you have a favorite?
Of my vampires, I'd say Aiden at the moment since he's the one I've worked with so much. I'm very excited and looking forward to write Nicolas' and Drake's story. Drake's story will be next in the series and I'm currently working on it now.
Is there one that you find a bit more difficult?
All of them can be difficult sometimes. I don't have one in particular.
Is there anything that you find challenging about being a writer?
Everything! From promoting, to editing, and just getting the story there in the first place. The biggest thing is getting my confidence up in my own books. But I do love everything that goes into writing, even if I want to pull my hair out sometimes.
Do you write freehand at all or straight onto your pc?
I do a little writing freehand, especially at the beginning. Sometimes if I can't have my computer like at work (don't tell anyone) or whenever, I will try and pick up where I left off before and write out my scenes to type up later.
Do you have a strict writing routine/word count per day?
I've tried to set a goal of writing 1000 words per day. At the moment I'm doing a rewrite, so it can be higher or less at the moment. That word count always depends if I'm caught up in reading a book. Like in March when J.R. Ward's new book releases, I'll be taking the day to read all day.
What do you think causes people’s enduring fascination with vampires?
The biting of course! As long as it's in the bedroom. And I'd say eternal life.
Do you have any plans to write in a different genre in the future?
Actually, while I'm working on the second vampire novel, I have a sci-fi romance coming out in April. I've also started the second one to the sci-fi and am currently working constantly to finish up what I call my “normal” novel. Nothing paranormal or sci-fi about it. It's different considering I usually read all paranormal and some sci-fi books. Either way I write all romance.
Are you also an avid reader? What are you reading at the moment?
I do love to read, but I don't read as much. I still try to keep up with my books the best I can. I've just finished the last of Laurann Dohner's series. (All of them) I'm going to buy the first of The Fallen Angel series of J.R. Ward's.
Doctor Who has just arrived in his Tardis. He puts you charge of the time machine, what would you do?
I have not seen Doctor Who. Don't hit me! I really do want to see it. But if I had a time machine, I'd want to go back and start my writing sooner when I had more time to work on it.
The vampires are attacking! Grab the first thing you see to your right and hit them with it! What was it? And how do you think you did in the ensuing fight?
My slim-fast shake! Wow, I definitely got bit or died! Unless they didn't like the taste of my blood after the shake. 🙂
The afore mentioned vampire attack didn’t go so well and you were bitten by the vampire…now what?
I turn into a gorgeous vampire and a sexy Guardian (from my books) saves me and turns out to be my mate! Don't tell my husband. 🙂
In the event of a zombie apocalypse what item would you make sure that you took with you to your underground safety bunker? (we will presume that your family are already safely in the bunker!)
My kindle with a bunch of books already loaded on it!
You are planning an awesome dinner party. Which 3 celebrities/fictional characters/historical figures (past or present) would you add to your guest list?
I would add J.R. Ward's charaters Quinn and Blay. And then Tom Hardy, who is my current obsession.
Can you give us five random facts about yourself?
I'm blind without my contacts. I have two kids. I like to dance and sing when noone's around. I love tigers (currently preparing for a tiger shifter trilogy). I'm addicted to twizzlers.
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Keep writing no matter what anyone says! Take writing courses, you can take cheap ones, but they still help. Ask other writers any questions you have and find some people to help read your work. Find someone that will be honest!
Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?
I really hope, if you read my book, that you fall in love with the characters like I have. And thank you for taking the time to read about me and give my book a chance.
About the author:
C.T. Nicholson juggles raising two kids with her husband, a full time job, and still manages to get her writing done. Sometimes she even manages to get some sleep . . . sometimes.
Writing and becoming a published author is a recent dream come true. Most of what she reads revolves around paranormal and sci-fi romance, and her writing follows the same path. The fun of weaving new worlds and species into existence is her true calling. She’s a romantic to the core and wants nothing more than a happy ending. And of course hot men!
