Resurrection Tower Series – Matt Holgate
“If you're a fan of horror, or fantasy, you should be reading Matt Holgate's epic fantasy horror novels.”
Sharon Stevenson, author of Blood Bound, Demon Divided and Fate Fallen
A child's laughter fluttered within the creak of a floorboard. It echoed around them in the dark house. Kara Kinfolk heard it, would never forget it.
Come play the imagination game, it whispered.
Welcome to the ongoing Resurrection Tower series! The Resurrection Tower lies in wait at the end of a long road, a journey between awake and asleep, life and death … between the heavens and the hells. Through numerous wars on numerous planes, it has stood watch. No one knows why. Yet the tower must be understood if this world and others are to be saved.
Our interview with the author of the Resurrection Tower Series, Matt Holgate:
Tell us about your series. What makes them worth reading?
With each book, I take a typical fantasy quest, and marry it with a staple from the horror genre. In the case of The Dim Realm, it's “a hero is discovered in a small town that must defeat an ancient evil” combined with “what if the town has dark secrets and won't let you leave so easily”. I populate it with urban fantasy characters so that it's easier for us modern folk to empathize with them, and give them scary things to face that hopefully creep out a character that would normally run at a zombie with a sword.
How long have you been writing and what inspired you to do it?
I've been writing for a few years, publishing for the last two, and currently working on my fourth book. As to inspiration, I'm not much of a ‘what if' type of person. I've always loved the supernatural, finally gave this writing thing a shot, and have been pleasantly surprised by the response so far.
What do you think causes people’s enduring fascination with vampires?
You mean aside from living forever, being incredibly sexy, having magic powers and a mind-blowing night life? No idea. It's so weird.
What are you reading right now? Would you recommend it?
Sigh. I am just finishing Inferno by Dan Brown. I know, I know, but it's a guilty pleasure. I have Fate Fallen, an indie urban fantasy (and vampire!) novel by Sharon Stevenson up to bat next.
The vampires are attacking! Grab the first thing you see to your right and hit them with it! What was it? And how do you think you did in the ensuing fight?
Awwww… man… really? The first thing on my right? It's a Gibson Les Paul guitar. Can't I just get bitten?
The afore mentioned vampire attack didn’t go so well and you were bitten by the vampire … now what?
Honestly? A whole lot of sex. Like, a stupid amount.
In the event of a zombie apocalypse what item would you make sure that you took with you to your underground safety bunker? (we will presume that your family are already safely in the bunker!)
Well, if I'm still a vampire, I probably don't care, so long as I still have a food source. Heck, I'm probably still having all that crazy vampire sex and won't notice until the zombie apocalypse is over.
You are planning an awesome dinner party. Which 3 celebrities/fictional characters/historical figures (past or present) would you add to your guest list?
Let's see… the Doctor from Doctor Who, because that opens up a whole lot of travel possibilities. The Sandman from Neil Gaiman's series because of how cool he is and we can travel dreams. And third? Buffy. Just because there could be no better bodyguard.
Can you give us five random facts about yourself?
I lucid dream when a nightmare starts so that I kick its ass. (Every time.) I play live music in pubs with friends, usually on drums. I put a fair bit of humor in my books, but it almost never shows up in the first draft, only after. I have a dog named Weiner who is half pug and half bulldog. (I hope the mom was the bulldog!) Even though I'm not a fan, I grew up hearing so much ABBA, I know all the lyrics, and it's frightening … especially when I forget so many other things.
Where can readers find your books?
I have hardcovers, softcovers and e-books through all the major online outlets, and you can find a full list via my website at www.mattholgatebooks.com
Is there anything you would like to say to your readers?
If you like action-packed, character-driven supernatural books with touches of horror and mystery, plus a little bit of (sarcastic) humour and sex, give my books a try. And in my first book, you will find at least three different types of vampire. The first one is fairly traditional. The next two? Not so much.

The Dim Realm, Volume I
Book One of The Resurrection Tower
In this fantasy tale, a former blacksmith, a teenager, and a stranger must team together to fight an ancient evil – before it is too late.
Book Two of The Resurrection Tower
Kara Kinfolk, Tal Stormgren and their companions find themselves in the midst of murder, disappearances, and an ancient cult bent on destruction as they battle an evil that holds unyielding power over the small town of Arrow's Flight – a dark house that hungers, a monster that wants as much as any mortal, and it will do anything to prevent anyone from entering or leaving town.
Book Three of The Resurrection Tower
The Reaver hunts them while they are awake. The Eater of Dreams stalks them while they sleep. In light of these and other menaces, how can Kara Kinfolk, Tal Stormgren, and companions new and old ever reach the elves? Old magics are awakening, most of them horrific, and none more so than the ancient, haunted city of Jorim-Sa. It lies between them and their salvation.
