Review: King Hall by Scarlett Dawn

King Hall

king hallA fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on-tight new adult fantasy series kicks off with King Hall…

King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing: survival. Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings. Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace — her burgeoning friendships with the other three Rulers: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.

Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the Revolution.

Our review:

This book really has everything any reader, paranormal or not, will love! Set in a face-paced world not unlike our own, well there are Vamps, Mages, Shifters and Elementals but I believe – what about you? Any way This book has incredible twists and turns that keep you flying through the pages. Scarlett does a fantastic job with character and plot development, so well that there were many times I wanted to grab the supposed elder characters by the throats and shake – not stir! Lily became real for me and I actually felt the conflict she went through with her mixed heritage and dealing with all the changes of being at a mystical school.
Every character is completely realized and developed. The section of the book where all the different “species’ are explained was beautifully done and enhanced the story instead of making me feel like I was being schooled – pun intended. Lily is a wonderful character with strength, intelligence and some sass which I find irresistible in a female lead.
This book has everything a reader could want thrills, suspense, angst, conflict, romance and cliff-hangers (although not my favorite, definitely works in this story!) is an amazing start to what I am sure will be an action packed thrill ride of a series that I cannot wait to get farther into.
