Review – Wanted: Dead or Alive by Kerrelyn Sparks
Phineas McKinney thought New York City was tough, until he was attacked by Malcontents—evil vampires who consider mortals to be snacks. Saved by the good vampires, Phin swore to devote his now undead life to stopping the Malcontents. He’s got his job cut out for him when word comes that their enemy may be hiding in Wyoming. What does a city boy like him know about horses and campfires? Good thing he’s got Brynley Jones with him . . . if only she didn’t hate every vampire on earth.
She’s a werewolf princess . . .
Bryn believes vampires are seductive and charming, and that makes them dangerous. So she’s more than a little annoyed about teaming up with Phin, even if he is the only bloodsucker able to make her inner wolf purr. But as they hunt down the new leader of the Malcontents, danger threatens . . . and Phineas and Brynley discover a passion that will rock the foundation of their supernatural world.
The best thing about The Love at Stake series by Kerrelyn Sparks is that it is a fun and welcome diversion from the dark and serious world that many vampire series take. Do not get me wrong by any means, her vampires are always on the side of justice and protect use puny humans from all the horrible things that go bump in the night and they fight against the Malcontents, the blood sucking human killing vampires. But they also have “real lives” with “real problems” and they are not afraid to laugh along the way. Take Phineas McKinney, he is an absolutely gorgeous specimen of vampire manliness, with is dark hair, dark chocolate eyes, bulging biceps, and voice that melts a she-wolf in all the right places and to top it off his nickname is Dr Phang-The Love Doctor! If that wasn’t enough he stars in the Blardonnay commercials (a synthetic blood/chardonnay mix).
All Phin wants is to shed the womanizer title and find a woman to love and that will love for who he is. A certain she-wolf princess with amazing blue eyes haunts most of his waking hours but she is less than thrilled by his presence or so he thinks. When Phin and Brynley have to work together to catch the new Vampire Queen all their pent up sexual tensions longings come to a head and they are forced to admit that they have more misconceptions about one another than actual facts and as those misconceptions are cleared up a truly sizzling romance comes to a boil!!!
Kerrelyn Sparks is great with her character development and with the long running success of her series she weaves the characters in and out of books and always gives a new and exciting glimpse of their personalities that you begin to feel as though you really know these characters. You celebrate in their marriages and the birth of their children, you mourn their losses and cheer them on when they are locked in a battle of life and death. This series is so addicting you cannot wait for the next book to see what will happen next. If you have not yet experience this amazing cast of vampires and all the other supernatural characters they call family I suggest you get started immediately!
