Weavingshaw Read Along | Week One
First Impressions, Leena, Silas & Early Predictions
Welcome to the first week of our read along of Weavingshaw by Heba Al-Wasity. This first section, y’all, has burned a fire deep in my guts. If you love fantasy romance, strong heroines, and slow-burn tension, this one is already delivering.
Leena Is the Kind of Heroine I Love
It took me a moment to connect with Leena, but by the time we go with her into the prison, I was rooting for her and her tenacity. Her lack of fear. Her fire. Leena is my kind of girl—smart, savvy, and rebellious.
There were several times I wanted to scream along with her, shout for her to fight back, to rip St. Silas a new one with words or weapon, and am equally as infuriated by the fact that she can’t. I know she can’t. She knows she can’t, and it rankles me something fierce.
I’m a petty, vindictive thing when purposefully manipulated. Far too independent of a thinker and unwilling to have anyone tell me what to do. Believe me, it’s both caused a few fights and put a few people in their places.
But Leena is walking that line well. I like her character, and I can’t wait for her to get one over on Silas.
St. Silas Is Raising My Blood Pressure
Also, Mr. St. Silas? Weird that they call him that, isn’t it?
Anyway, his complete hold on her and how he uses her botany book as leverage is raising my blood pressure—as intended. I’m just waiting for the transformation he will make—hopefully—by the end of this story.
The Enemies-to-Lovers Tension Is Strong
A true enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance thread that will be so fun to watch unravel.
I am curious about Silas. Is he a demon as many whisper about? How did he get a hold of those cursed books? Why test her the way he has? Why not have her investigate what he really wants instead of holding her leash so tightly?
I suspect it is about the power and control, but I desperately want it to be more. As much as I want him to not have touched her precious book and merely use the threat to hold her in line. Give me a little Darcy in his character—the way he’s easy to loathe at first but softens at the right moment. I want that with Silas.
We’ll see if I get it.
My Predictions for the Next Chapters
I’m predicting there will be some issues in the next few chapters when Leena gets to visit her brother.
A bit of relief for her to see him, but he’s going to cause problems for her before life gets easier. I don’t know what he’s going to do, but I see him as a troublemaker, and he’s going to bring trouble her way.
I hope he survives whatever he does that will piss Silas off.
I Need to See Weavingshaw
Also, I cannot wait to see Weavingshaw. I want that to take some weight and time in the story, especially since it’s the name of the book and has been focused on so completely.
We’ll find our ghost there, and whatever Silas had taken from him. I wonder if it was his soul.
In any case, I’m primed to keep reading, to know what’s going to befall our poor Leena, and how the romantic elements of this story will bloom.
