Introduce yourself. 

Hi! I’m Meredith Clarke. I write paranormal romance. I love writing about sexy alpha shifters and the badass women that love them. I’m from the Midwest, but I live on the East Coast now with my husband, little monster, and several fur babies.

How long have you been writing or when did you start?

I have been writing since 2015.

Why paranormal/urban fantasy? What drew you to the genre?

I have always loved paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I grew up on Harry Potter and then I got completely hooked on Twilight when it came out. From there I read everything paranormal romance that I could. I think I love it so much because I get to completely develop a whole world centered around the story.

What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

The plot usually comes first for me, and then I develop the characters around it. This happens because I love creating the world the characters are set in.

What’s your favorite type of paranormal creature and why?

I love shifters. I think I just really enjoy the pack mentality and the idea of fated or true mates.

Tell us about your heroine/hero. What inspired her/his quirks and struggles?

Rosalie has a lot of my own quirks and nerdiness. She is also the type of character that I love to write. One that has a hard past but learns to how strong they really are throughout the story.

Would you and your main character get along?

I think we certainly would. We would geek out on a lot of the same things. She would probably make fun of me a lot though because I am a chicken compared to her.

Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?

I relate to Rosalie the most because I think in some ways how fearless she is, is how I wish I could be. The other character I relate to a lot is Spencer. He is a bit of a jokester and loves to crack jokes to break the tension. He is someone I would probably have a major crush on in real life. He is actually the one that reminds me the most of my husband.

What is a significant way your book has changed since the first draft?

I think the main storyline changed a lot. When I first started, I just had this idea for a reverse harem paranormal romance based in New Orleans. But as I started to dive more into it, the world kept getting bigger and more intricate.
