New Paranormal Romance Release – Ignorant Bliss, by Shana Kyle

Today we are lucky to hear from paranormal romance author, Shana Kyle.  She is the author of Ignorant Bliss which is a tale of a smoking-hot detective with vampire-like tendencies. Shana harkens from New Mexico. and lives there with her husband and two sons. She writes mostly paranormal romance and urban fantasy.

ILVN: How long have you been writing or when did you start?

SK: I’ve loved to write since I was a kid but I started seriously writing about ten years ago.

ILVN: Why paranormal/urban fantasy? What drew you to the genre?

SK: This is my favorite genre as it presents the opportunity to create characters and places that are different from everyday life.  There’s no limit!

ILVN: What comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?

SK: The characters come first. I want my characters to resonate with my readers and feel like someone they might want to get to know. The plot will fall into place but if you cannot feel a connection with the character a book falls short of being interesting.

ILVN: What’s your favorite type of paranormal creature and why?

SK: Vampires – they may be creatures of the night but they have also watched history unfold. They are interesting. And while they are not human, they once were and that’s a fun concept to work with.

ILVN: Tell us about your heroine/hero. What inspired her/his quirks and struggles?

SK: She’s an immortal being who has spent centuries never getting too close because she’s not a fan of losing loved ones, and mortals have a short life span relative to hers. When she discovers vampires she finds a solution to years of loneliness. She’s not a complex person but she’s fiercely loyal and cares very deeply for those who are close to her. She also takes a lot of her gifts for granted and when she’s put to the test she learns a hard lesson about that. She is snarky and humorous and free spirited.

ILVN: Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?

SK: Her mortal best friend Lisa.

ILVN: What is a significant way your book has changed since the first draft?

SK: It’s more refined and the characters better developed.
