Nothing puts me in the holiday spirit like shifter romances… okay, that’s a huge lie. Nothing puts me in the holiday spirit like panic buying gifts, but I digress.
Shifter romance stories are some of the most beloved in the PNR realm (not that I have to tell you that. I’m sure you have several favorites off the top of your head). Since it’s an oh so jolly time of year, I decided to list eleven shifter books that should grace your reading devices. Some are naughty. Some are nice. Some downright need a shower. All have one thing in common: characters changing. And isn’t that what the holidays are all about?
(In no particular order except at the end. New books in three fan favorite series are at the end of the list.)
MOON TOUCHED by Elizabeth Briggs
From the description: My fated mate rejected me—and now I’ve been captured by someone even worse.
As the half-human outcast of the Cancer pack, I’ve been beaten and bullied my whole life. Gaining my wolf form and my fated mate is my only chance to change packs and hope for a better life.
Except when my fated mate is revealed, he’s the future alpha of the Leo pack—our worst enemies. He rejects me in front of everyone, just before the Leos slaughter my entire pack and murder my family.
I manage to escape, but then I’m kidnapped by a far greater threat: the alpha of the mysterious lost pack. The 13th sign was banished from the Zodiac Wolves years ago, and I thought they were just a myth.
They’re real. They’re holding me captive. And the dark, dangerous alpha is offering me something I can’t refuse—revenge.
Moon Touched is the first book in a scorching hot wolf shifter series.
WOLF CURSED by Heather Hildenbrand
From the description: Bad boys break hearts, but I’ll make sure it’s not mine.
After my nightmarish past, starting fresh should be a dream come true. But when my father’s death leaves me on the run, I have no choice but to seek shelter with the only family I have left. An uncle I’ve never even met.
My uncle has a bad attitude and pack of friends that remind me far too much of the toxic life I left behind. Cruel, sexy Kai Stone is the worst of them. Occasionally, when the moon is high and full, I swear there’s something even beastlike about him. A monster who thrives off the mayhem and chaos that surrounds him. But no matter how hard I fight it, something about him tugs at my very soul.
The worst part is, I have a secret. And when Kai discovers it, I have to convince him to let me stay. Worse, I’ll have to trust him. And make him trust me.
Because I know he’s keeping something from me as well. And when I learn the truth, it will change everything.
If there’s one thing Kai refuses to allow, it’s outsiders.
Too bad neither one of us knows how to resist a bad idea.
BODYGUARD BEAR by Harmony Raines
From the description: Kate Kellan never wanted to be an actress. Although she is thankful for the life changing opportunity her career has given her, she wants to move on with her life. All Kate has to do is convince her overbearing mom she isn’t crazy to ditch the career that changed their fortunes. But before she can break the news to her mom, Kate is pursued in the darkness by someone who means her harm.
However, when she is saved by Red, an incredibly strong, and incredibly attractive stranger, she isn’t sure if she is being played. Especially when Red confesses he is in town for a meeting about joining Bear Creek Protectors.
When bear shifter, Red, meets his mate, she is suspicious of his motives. But soon he breaks down Kate’s barriers and convinces her he is only trying to protect her.
But as the danger escalates, his services as a bodyguard are just what Kate needs. Along with his body in her bed!
Can they work together to find out who is behind the attacks? Or will they lose their happy ever after forever?
WITHIN OBSESSION AND LIES by Stacy Jones and Harper Wylde
From the description: Power. Obsession. Lies.
Other people dream of being special. They wouldn’t, if they knew what a nightmare it is.
Arawyn would give anything to be ordinary and rid herself of the power that lives inside her. Dangerous and alluring, it’s caused nothing but pain and horror, making her the dark obsession of anyone who gets too close.
After years of barely containing it, Arawyn thought she had control… until the night it bursts free and pulses like a beacon.
As threats emerge from the shadows, each one more fixated on her than the last, she finds her life infiltrated by three mysterious men.
A mafia boss, a psychopath, and a killer.
Rathe, Viper, and Fear are much more than they seem. They taste of power and feel impossibly familiar. They call to her soul in a way she’s never experienced and might have answers to questions she’s been asking her entire life.
But darkness and secrets surround them, ones covered in blood and mire.
When the monsters stalking her endanger not only her power but her life, she’ll have to make a decision: take a risk and let these dangerous men in, or do what she’s always done—walk away and try to survive on her own.
Trusting them would be a mistake. Yet, she may not have a choice.
The monsters hunting her aren’t human and they’re out for blood. Rathe, Viper, and Fear might be her only chance of making it through this alive.
There’s only one problem. They aren’t human either…
WICKED WOLVES AND TANGLED TRUTHS by Daniela Romero
From the description: He’s a werewolf heir and I’m a lone wolf moving into his territory.
Not by choice I might add.
Our first meeting goes about as good as you’d expect it too.
Its hate at first sight which is a problem.
Because Rafe rules the halls of Hellbound High and he makes it clear there’s no chance in hell he’ll go easy on me.

WOLF KISSED by Heather Renee
From the description: Fighting fate isn’t for the weak.
Cait
I am many things, but a supernatural being is not one of them. At least until a crescent mark appears on my wrist and everything changes. I’ve been marked by a wolf goddess, yet no one knows what that means, myself included.
On top of that, I find out my best friend is a werewolf and her pack alpha is my supposed mate. Just like that my future is decided—unless I find a way out.
Roman
When fate sends a human mate my way, I’m certain it has to be a mistake. An alpha is supposed to have an equal at his side. Cait might be strong in her own ways, but what she is makes her an easy target in my world.
Regardless, Cait is mine to protect and I have every intention of showing her this is where she belongs—in my pack, by my side.
SHIFTER WARS (book one) by Kelly St. Clare
From the description: When Mum died, I inherited a lot more than a pack of lies.
I landed a $410,000 debt.
Discovered her previous surname.
And her real place of birth.
Desperate to uncover the truth, I drive to a tiny dot on the map called Deception Valley.
Coincidental name? Nope.
There, I find her secret family—because she had one of those too.
How many lies are we at? Honestly, I’ve lost count, but local gossip captures my attention. Apparently, Mum’s other family play laser tag every Wednesday. Not even joking. Laser tag.
What the hell is this place?
In hindsight, the massive guy with honey irises was my first major clue. Unusual eyes for a human, right?
Perfect eyes for a werewolf.
But sexy supernaturals, thongs, and mounting financial strain aside, Mum’s past is buried somewhere in this valley, and I need to dig up the truth or find a way to live with her lies.
What do you do when neither option will leave you unscathed?
SHIFTERS FOR THE HOLIDAY by Sedona Venez
(A little holiday treat for you) From the description: Get Warm and Fuzzy. New Holiday Romance Story That’ll Give You All The Feels…
Someone wants me dead… This is not going to be a very Merry Christmas.
If arsonists setting fire to my barn right before Christmas isn’t bad enough, a sniper shooting through my bedroom window is like getting a lump of coal for Christmas.
But I don’t want protection. My father thinks otherwise and hires two rugged former military wolf-shifters—Axel and Tucker—to protect me at all costs.
But I’m not your ordinary damsel in distress. I’m a curvy, independent woman, used to running things my way. But when I’m trapped inside my cabin with my gorgeous bodyguards during a blizzard, sensual boundaries are crossed, leaving me attracted to not one, but both of my wolf-shifter protectors.
Now, not only is my life on the line, but so is my heart…
And now, here are three books that are the newest releases in their series. The descriptions contain potential spoilers if you haven’t read the series. If this is where you say good-bye to this list, thank you for reading! If you keep reading… I mean… I appreciate it!
RAFAEL by Laurell K. Hamilton (aka Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter book 28)
From the description: Rafael, king of the wererats, must fight to the death to defend his crown. He wants Anita Blake, one of his closest allies, with him as he faces an opponent unlike any he’s faced before. He will ask Anita to risk everything to be at his side….
But some of the wererats fear that Rafael depends too much on Anita and her ties to the vampires. They believe that there is only room in America for one supernatural king, and Rafael will turn them into nothing more than food for the bloodsuckers.
Among his enemies, a new challenger has arisen who is younger, hungrier, and has dark secrets that could destroy both the wererats and the vampires. Rafael will go into the magical heart of his people to find the power and violence that he needs to save them all, or die trying.
SMOKE BITTEN by Patricia Briggs (aka book 12 in the Mercy Thompson series)
From the description: Mercy Thompson, car mechanic and shapeshifter, faces a threat unlike any other in this thrilling entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.
I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman.
My only “superpowers” are that I turn into a thirty-five pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I’m going to need them.
Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill—until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived.
Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything—even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory.
It won’t, can’t, remain.
Not if I have anything to say about it.
And last but certainly not least.
THE WOLVES DESCEND by Quinn Loftis (aka Gray Wolves Series book 15)
From the description: The fight for dominance begins.
The period of mourning for the great alphas, Vasile and Alina, is over. But some refuse to move on. The high fae, Perizada, vows never to experience the loss of her friends–her family–again. She knows the only way to do this is to take on the Order of the Burning Claw herself. But her mate would never allow it. So, she does the only thing she can, severing all ties with her allies. Peri’s decision could destroy her enemies, the Order, but it could also destroy everything she holds dear.
The end of mourning also marks the beginning of challenges to the new alpha of alphas, Fane Lupei. Rogue wolves who desire to rule in his stead attempt to stake their claims. Though Fane abides by pack law when facing his opponents, others aren’t so honorable. Fane soon realizes the threats he faces aren’t just against him, but against his entire pack.
Skender and the fae, Tenia, fight against the mate bond drawing them closer. They both know they cannot be together, but the bond is more powerful than either expected. Meanwhile, Skender has promised to keep Tenia’s son, Torion, safe–a promise he’s willing to die to keep. Skender soon finds out that there’s more to the boy than meets the eye, and Skender’s ability to keep the boy safe could be the key to saving them all.
There you have it! Eleven naughty and nice shifter romances to keep you up at night. This was an incredibly fun list to compile. I hope you found some of your favorites (and some new favorites). What is your favorite werecreature? I’m torn between the classic werewolf and, I admit, a wererat. Hmmm… I need to read Rafael, that’s for certain.
Hope you’ve enjoyed Eleven Shifters Shifting. See you next time!
